How the BattleBots Match Process Works

One of the most interesting parts of BattleBots fighting involves the matches that are used. Here' s a look at the BattleBots match process, including only how matches work but also what happens what a robot wins a match. There is also a scoring process involved for determining who wins a match if both robots survive.

A match in BattleBots fighting will last three minutes. There are two robots competing during this time period. The robots will be linked together in a certain weight class, as there are four different weight classes used to create matchups among others. The main goal of these two robots is to attack each other until one of them ends up being destroyed or damaged enough to the point where the robot will be unable to compete any longer.

In most cases both of the robots will be able to survive the entire three minutes of the match. When this happens the winner of the match will be determined by a scoring system. There are three judges that grade robots based on aggression, which involves the will of the robot to fight, strategy, involving being able to avoid hazards and use special moves to fight, and damage, which relates to the amount of damage that one delivers. Each judge gives a robot five points to a robot that the judge feels is best in the category. The most points that one robot can get is forty five, and with this scoring method of ruling out games in fives there will be no ties.

In some cases a robot will be eliminated before the match ends. This is usually because the robot is badly damaged or is stuck on a hazard in the arena. If the robot cannot move for thirty seconds then it will be eliminated as a knock out.

The person who controls the robot can call for a tap out at any time. This is where the person calls a forfeit because the robot is too damaged to continue fighting. The match will end ten seconds after this, and while the opponent could attack the robot it is requested that the robot does not attack at the end.

There is a special process to use after a robot wins. This is an important thing to use for BattleBots fighting, as at the end of a meet robots are all used to compete in a single rumble. All of the robots in one weight class that survived the matches from earlier in the meet will compete with each other. In some cases there are too many of the robots for one rumble so multiple rumbles are needed with all of the winners in individual robots who won those rumbles competing in one final match to see who wins for the meet.

The BattleBots match process is unique in that it is different from what one would see in a series of boxing matches. That' s because while three minute matches are used robots can easily be damaged heavily and the matches can be shorter. There are rumbles to use at the end too.
